Solar Savings for All

Every Australian should be able to live in a home that is safe and affordable to heat, cool and cook in, whether they rent, own their home, or live in a house, unit or an apartment.

Right now, too many Australians are doing it tough, with costly energy bills driven by the profiteering of big, private energy companies.

30% of Australians have already taken back control of their energy bills using rooftop solar and energy efficient upgrades.

But many Aussie workers, especially those on lower incomes, are missing out on this opportunity to cut their bills.

Why is this important?

We’ve already won $500m from the federal government to upgrade social housing energy efficiency and electrification, but we need to go further!

It's time to empower every Australian to cut their energy bills.

We call on the government to take immediate action to help Australian workers

  • An additional $4.5bn investment to eliminate upfront costs of home energy upgrades, and rooftop solar and batteries for millions of Australian households hit hardest by the cost-of-living crisis
  • A $50bn commitment over 10 years to help all Australians access cheap, renewable energy
  • A guarantee that all Australians - including those in low-income homes, renters and communities experiencing disadvantage - can benefit from energy savings

After sustained advocacy from across our coalition and others, the government and the Greens have just reached a deal that will see a $500 million expansion of the Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative.

This is a significant win that directly aligns with our campaign's vision for an equitable clean energy transition:

- 50,000 social housing homes will receive energy efficiency upgrades
- Residents will save approximately $1,800 per year on power bills
- Upgrades include air conditioning, insulation, shading, electric hot water systems, cooktops, ovens, solar panels and batteries
- Funding will be distributed proportionally to states without requiring co-contributions
