Raise the rate of Jobseeker & Rental support!

We need to raise the rate of Jobseeker, Youth Allowance to at least $76 per day, and substantially increase rental support.

The Government's stated policy is to drive up unemployment to cut inflation - which is expected to put 100,000 more people out of paid work. That's 100,000 more people who will be reliant on a payment that we know forces them to skip meals and medication and live without heating and cooling.

It makes no sense that the "cost of living" measures in this year's budget will deliver a bonus $93 / week to a single person earning over $200,000 a year, while a single person on Jobseeker will see only a $6/ week increase.

Why is this important?

We are working people - but there are times when any of us can be between jobs or in a tough spot financially.

At those times, we need the support of our community. As working people we are proud to support our families, friends and neighbours who are doing it tough - and we are proud to have built Australia's social safety net.

But right now Australia's safety net is failing. People on Jobseeker and Youth Allowance are being forced to skip meals and medication.

This has a devastating impact on people's mental and physical health when they are already in a tough spot.

We call on the Australian Government to raise the rate of Jobseeker, Youth Allowance and Rental support, and repair our social safety net.
