First Responder Superannuation
Increase the superannuation guarantee for Firefighters and Paramedics.
Firefighters and Paramedics are rarely able to work until they are 67, with most unable to continue working in emergency response roles by 60. The specialised skills mean there are limited job opportunities with similar pay when they aren't able to work on the truck.
The superannuation system is designed to ensure that retirement incomes are proportionate to a workers income before retirement, which is why superannuation payments are a percentage of wages rather than a flat amount.
Early retirement means Firefighters, Paramedics and their families face financial insecurity in retirement. Increasing the superannuation guarantee for Firefighters and Paramedics will provide equal financial security in retirement to other workers on a similar income for Firefighters, Paramedics and their families.

Why is this important?
We all rely on Firefighters and Paramedics to turn up in our greatest time of need. The current system punishes their dedication and service, and punishes their families, by undermining their financial security in retirement.
