Give every child the chance to thrive

They get kids active while increasing social and developmental skills. They are another place to fit in and thrive, if school or home are tough.

Yet for children in single mother families and other low income families participation in sports or music is out of reach.

We're calling on the Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas to introduce a voucher-based scheme for extracurricular activities.

Can you believe Victoria is the only state without a subsidy scheme to help disadvantaged families pay for sports and recreational activities outside school?

NSW currently has a voucher scheme that in its first year saw more than half the eligible kids take up a sport, activity or instrument. That’s a great outcome for families and one that is helping develop stronger communities.

Victorian kids deserve the same opportunities!

Why is this important?

Extracurricular activities aren’t just a fun way to teach kids skills and help them burn off energy – they help kids feel included, build resilience and develop talent.

They get kids active while increasing social and developmental skills. They are another place to fit in and thrive, if school or home are tough.

Yet for children in low income families, participation in sports or music is out of reach.

How it will be delivered

We plan to go and visit the Treasurer Tim Pallas to deliver the petition and talk to him about the need for a voucher scheme.
