Make Wage Theft a Crime in Tasmania!
To make politicians in Tasmania realize that wage theft is real and rampant in Tasmania, and to criminalize wage theft.
Why is this important?
In Tasmania, there are many businesses who have chosen to underpay their workers and it is severely affecting a lot of people. They would often prey on international students and local Tasmanians who are not aware of their work rights. These exploitation are often found in the Hospitality industry and have plagued Tasmania for a very long time.
Current international students are often paid based on their nationality. A Malaysian student may be paid 10AUD per hour, while a Chinese Mainlander will only get paid 6AUD. This is way below the minimum wage that was set by the Fairwork Commission.
This petition is created to call on all political parties to criminalize wage theft in Tasmania. Please sign to show your support as we will present this to relevant political parties in Tasmania in order to criminalize wage theft.
